In 2025, the Rain City Open featured 60 athletes from around the world, including the USA, Canada, Scotland and New Zealand. The athletes clashed and demonstrated the ancient art of Sumo for an estimated 5,000 fans!
In 2026, the Rain City Open returns with a greater vision for the event, with more Japanese tradition, more excitement and a grander scale.
This year’s event will be at the same location, the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. The doors will open around 8:30AM, and the tournament will begin promptly at 9:00. Some of the most exciting divisions will happen early in the day, so don’t sleep in!
At the event you’ll find food, t-shirts and gifts, taiko drumming and even activities such as the wildly popular tegata making, where you can make your own Sumo hand print autograph!
And best of all, ENTRY IS FREE for spectators!
Mark your calendars and we’ll see you there. Hakkeyoi!
